At 1,560 meters above sea level, Davos is the highest city in Europe as well as the location for the World Economic Forum that takes place annually in January. The population of Davos climbs during the winter high season from 12,000 to 60,000. The neighboring town of Klosters is known for its houses all built in the chalet style and for its chic allure and illustrious guests. The two towns unite five skiing regions with over 300 km of pistes under the name Davos Klosters Mountains: Jakobshorn, Rinerhorn, Pischa, Parsenn/Gotschna and Madrisa. Davos Klosters Bergbahnen AG employs 155 people all year round and 500 seasonal workers. The operations also include 17 hotels with a total of 1,600 beds.

Requirements
  • The skiing areas of Davos Klosters Mountains are up to 2,844 meters above sea level. Extreme weather conditions prevail at times, especially in the winter.
Flawless communication when coordinating rescue staff is a requirement even during bad weather. Therefore the company’s own SOS service must be able
to communicate reliably and with flawless quality with the local Swiss Alpine Club, hospital and Rega rescue services.
  • The technicians who are responsible for the safety and the maintenance of the lifts and railways, along with the artificial snow on the pistes, have to be able to rely on mobile communications in remote areas. Especially when danger is looming, e.g. with increased risk of avalanches.
Solution

Mobile/landline network company solution

Through the combination of mobile and landline telephony, calls can be made for free within the company. And so that calls can be made without a problem even in the furthest corner of the skiing areas and in the machine rooms of the cable railways on the GSM and UMTS network of Sunrise, the entire region was specially measured and optimized. This means rescue staff and technicians can be reached at all times and from all places.
