Michael Keaton in «Beetlejuice Beetlejuice» – available in the VoD store from 19 December
Ever since the film «Wednesday» became a streaming hit, Jenna Ortega has been the star for an entire generation. As the daughter of now grown-up Lydia (Winona Ryder), she accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife, bringing back the poltergeist Betelgeuse. But his ex-wife Delores (Monica Bellucci) also returns from the realm of the dead. If you take this crazy goth comedy seriously even for just one minute, it’s your own fault. Because this «Beetlejuice» sequel is still a lot of fun even 36 years after the original film’s release.
Cate Blanchett in «Borderlands» – available in the VoD store from 18 December
With «Borderlands», Eli Roth has created a film version of the video game of the same name from 2K Games that was first released in 2009. It led to a whole series of six games with a Western-fantasy-science-fiction setting in this world. Cate Blanchett leads an unruly squad of mercenary soldiers tasked with finding a missing girl and a mysterious relic. Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Hart appear in supporting roles.
Zachary Levi in «Harold and the Purple Crayon» – available in the VoD store from 16 December
In this film adaptation of a children’s book, Zachary Levi plays the book’s character Harold, who can bring drawings to life with a magic crayon. He’s transported from the pages of the book to the real world, where his skill threatens to fall into the wrong hands. Harold and his friends now need to summon up all their creativity to save not just the real world, but also the world depicted in the book. A mad cross between animation and live-action film from «Ice Age» director Carlos Saldanha.
X-mas comedy in «Noël joyeux – Christmas Unplanned» – now available in the VoD store
For family man Vincent Barand, Christmas surrounded by his loved ones is a sacred time. When his children cancel at the last minute, he’s devastated. To make sure he won’t have to spend the festive period with just his wife, he makes the spontaneous decision to invite some new guests from the retirement home who would otherwise also be on their own. Origin story in «Transformers One» – available in the VoD store from 30 December
«Transformers One» depicts the origins of Michael Bay’s seven «Transformers» films. All the stories are based on the toys sold by Hasbro (USA) and Takara Tomy (Japan) in 1984. This superbly animated prequel shows how the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron changed their home planet of Cybertron forever. The «Runaway Train» escape sequence featuring a train into the unknown is tremendous. A thrilling, spectacular film that won’t just appeal to fans of the genre!
