Exploring Gen Z: digital and #RealConnection

Generation Z is said to be «work-shy, money-driven, inclusive, exclusive, always online, afraid of the future and so on.» What’s certain is that Gen Z is authentic, honest and diverse – as diverse as the topics discussed in the new ten-part Sunrise Young podcast series «City, Country, Stuff».

The latest campaign for the new Sunrise Young Mobile subscription revolves around «Real Connection» – connections that extend beyond the digital bubble. And that’s exactly what the new podcast series «City, Country, Stuff» from Sunrise Young is all about. It’s a podcast featuring two friends, Flavia and Jenny, who get together in «real life» every two weeks and chat about subjects both important and not – meaning they’ll talk a bit about all the issues that affect their Gen Z lives. These include living with one’s parents in the countryside, longing for the city, exciting career choices, swiping to find a date, musical hobbies, an unknown future and much more. But you’ll find one thing there more than anything else: lots of authentic and honest relatable moments.

Episode 1: City Kid vs. Country Bumpkin

In the podcast «City, Country, Stuff», heritage is the common thread that, despite everyone’s differences, «connects» people more than it divides them, and it’s the topic that also provides the introduction podcast’s introduction. The first episode is all about «City Kid vs. Country Bumpkin», a subject that also covers all those issues that really matter to Gen Z and stir its emotions, with «maximum identification». Jenny and Flavia report on what they’re up to in their lives, moving to the city or another country, the highs and lows of their week, etc. They’ll also explain how they manage to balance online communication and real-life experiences, and how they’re both important to their lives and their friendship.

Episode 2: Festival Experiences feat. Lou Kaena

Podcast at Zurich Openair? Surrounded by aircraft noise and sound checks, we created our own little oasis in the Sunrise starzone Lounge. And we weren’t alone – musician, rapper and songwriter Lou Kaena (18) joined us. We talk to her about amusing (and annoying) festival experiences, about juggling school and work, and we find out which one of us is the biggest crybaby.

Episode 3: Friendships

In the third episode, it's all about friendships – we also take a closer look at our own and analyse what we might want to change. While Jenny sometimes wishes for a best friend, Flavia explains why she no longer believes in the "best friend" concept. Of course, we also discuss how we would end a friendship – including a text template from Jenny.

Episode 4: Backpacking, weekend trips and Swiss cycling holidays

The fourth episode is all about our travelling adventures: why Flavia likes to discover the world in a van or on a bike while Jenny hasn't yet had the real backpacking experience for several weeks at a time. We talk about our funniest travelling acquaintances, such as when Flavia met a rock star and Jenny danced with underage Brits at a party. And what drives us crazy and makes us cry even on the best trips...

Episode 5: Deep Talk with professional snowboarder Nicolas Huber

The second special guest in our podcast is Nicolas ‘Nici’ Huber. The professional snowboarder sat down with us in the Makeshift-Podcast-Studioin the Sunrise starzone lounge at Big Air Chur. Shortly before his first World Cup in freestyle snowboarding, we talked about pressure in professional sports as well as in life in general. Furthermore we discussed sex, adrenaline addiction and his future plans.

Episode 6: Ghosting, Falling for Someone Else, and Damaged Nipples

Welcome to our dating jungle. In this episode, we talk about situational relationships, describing Flavia's nipples as ‘broken’ and shedding a few tears with Jenny over the beginning of their seven-year relationship.

Episode 7: Between Investing and Girl Math

Talking about money is taboo? Not for us! Jenny invests in bathroom companies, and Flavia in bikinis. In this episode, we discuss how we navigate this topic with friends or at work and why we have a love-hate relationship with "Girl Math."

Episode 8: Being a Woman: Tanga-Talks and Breaking Taboos

Surprise We're back already – and this time with a very special episode: live from the Suisse Podcast Festival 2024! In front of an audience, we dedicated ourselves to the topic of "Being a Woman." We talked about our teenage years, embarrassing stories, and taboos – yes, self-pleasure was also part of it. But that's not all: Jenny even did a handstand live on stage! An episode full of laughs and honest moments – live, raw, and unfiltered.

Episode 9: Stress & Struggles

Stress, struggles, and everything in between – we talk about mental burdens, how to recognize them, and what helps us get through tough times. From the first response when you're feeling down to personal techniques that help us regain clarity.

Note from Jenny and Flavia: If these topics – stress, mental burdens, personal struggles – feel overwhelming right now, we recommend listening to the episode at a later time or with someone you can talk to about it.

Episode 10: Career Cosmos with Eleni

High school or apprenticeship? University or straight to work? How on earth are you supposed to know at 13 what you want to do with your life?! In Episode 10, we chat with Eleni, a fourth-year mediamatics apprentice, about her training, balancing school and work, and what she loves most about her apprenticeship. Along the way, we share our own career choice wins and fails and offer tips in case you're still figuring out what to do in the future.

Episode 11: A Toast to 2024

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner – time to indulge in nostalgia! We’re sharing our biggest shits (Jenny crying on the university floor, Flavia mad at her boyfriend) and shines of the year, browsing our favourite photos on the camera, and checking out our top songs for 2024.
