From test alarm to smart city – the future with Kockum Sonics and its intelligent sirens
Following the annual nationwide siren test in Switzerland, the mailboxes at Kockum Sonics AG are bursting at the seams. A glimpse behind the scenes reveals that it’s a very busy time for the siren experts, with enquiries from cantons and civil-defence authorities streaming in. Although reports of faults are rare, the technical team is always on hand to carry out any repairs and maintenance work on site.
In the test lab, CEO Pascal Loretz explains that there are plans to link all the civil-defence sirens to the IoT so that maintenance work can be spread across the year. Italy is already using smart sirens that warn people about tsunamis and volcanic eruptions and that can communicate with intelligent transport systems.
