MPN slicing makes it possible to split a physical mobile network into multiple virtual-network segments, known as «slices». These exclusively reserved slices are configured for different applications or specific user groups and provide reliable private data connections without any loss of network quality or availability – regardless of the public-network load.

MPN slicing uses the existing Sunrise 5G infrastructure. Slicing is the process of dividing a physical 5G network into virtual segments. Multiple private slices can then be assigned to different applications or user groups on the same public network. Each slice is independent and tailored to the specific requirements of the relevant application. These slices are configured individually in terms of speed, latency, capacity and security. The isolation of the individual slices prevents other slices or interference factors from affecting a segment’s performance and stability. As a result, users benefit from a private 5G network.

When used in combination with edge computing, in which the computing and storage capacities for applications along with parts of the core network are physically located as close as possible to the end devices and users, the latency times can be reduced even more.
